You Don’t Need More

Simple, affordable ways to make memories with your kids without feeling pressured to keep up!
Have you ever opened your phone and seen a picture of someone’s beautifully decorated playroom, a table covered in the newest toys, or a perfectly themed birthday setup and thought:
“I should be doing that for my kids.”
Maybe you see a toy that seems to be everywhere right now, even one of ours listed in the Children’s Collection.
Or a seasonal activity kit that promises to create the perfect childhood memory.
Or a picture of a beautifully coordinated playroom that makes your own collection of mismatched toys look a little less Pinterest-worthy.
And suddenly, you’re wondering if your child is missing out.
Let’s take a breath.
They aren’t.
At Earthy Aura, we don’t believe being a good parent means constantly buying the newest toy, the cutest seasonal decoration, or the activity that happens to be trending this week.
Childhood doesn’t have to come with a shopping cart.
Sometimes the best memories are made with a cardboard box, a blanket, some sidewalk chalk, and a parent who is willing to get down on the floor and play. Imagination can go far with just what you have at home; kids can play with anything and it’s what makes them so creative, imaginative, and just fun to be around.
And if all you take away from Earthy Aura is that we’re here to support you—not pressure you to buy something—then we’re completely happy with that.
🌿 You Don’t Have to Keep Up
Social media can make childhood look expensive.
There’s the “must-have” toy.
The themed sensory bin.
The matching pajamas.
The elaborate birthday party.
The seasonal craft supplies.
The beautifully organized toy shelf.
The newest educational toy that’s supposedly going to make your child a genius before lunchtime.
Okay…maybe that’s a slight exaggeration.
But sometimes it really can feel that way.
It’s easy to start thinking:
“Maybe I need that too.”
But your child doesn’t know whether the activity you planned cost $50 or nothing.
They don’t know whether their toy came from a trendy boutique or a secondhand store.
They don’t care if the craft you’re doing together came from a carefully curated activity box or a piece of cardboard you found in the recycling bin.
They care that you were there.
❤️ Memories Don’t Have to Be Expensive
Think back to your own childhood.
Do you remember the price tag of your favorite toy?
Probably not.
You probably remember things like:
- Running through the yard.
- Staying up late with your family.
- Building forts.
- Making cookies.
- Playing outside until the sun went down.
- Laughing so hard your stomach hurt.
- Getting a blanket and having a movie night.
- Going on adventures that didn’t really feel like adventures at the time.
- Sitting around the kitchen table talking.
- Your parent saying, “Let’s make something.”
Those moments didn’t need a shopping cart.
They needed time, imagination, and connection.
💰 15 Ways to Make Memories for Little or No Money
You don’t need a closet full of new activities to keep your children entertained.
Here are a few ideas you can try today.
1. Have a Living Room Picnic
Put a blanket on the floor.
Make sandwiches.
Add whatever snacks you already have.
Turn on some music and eat together somewhere other than the kitchen table.
That’s it.
You’ve officially turned lunch into an adventure.
2. Build a Blanket Fort
Grab blankets, pillows, and couch cushions.
Build the biggest fort you possibly can.
Then crawl inside with books, snacks, stuffed animals, or flashlights.
Bonus points if Mom or Dad can squeeze inside too.
No judgment if getting back out requires a small rescue operation.
3. Go on a Nature Hunt
You don’t need to go anywhere special.
Take a walk around your neighborhood or backyard and look for:
🍂 Something red
🌿 Something green
🪨 A smooth rock
🌸 A flower
🐦 A bird
☁️ A funny-shaped cloud
Let your children make up their own categories too.
4. Have a “Yes” Afternoon
Give your child a little time where you say yes to their reasonable ideas.
Want to build a fort?
Yes.
Want to wear a superhero cape to dinner?
Sure.
Want to have a picnic in the living room?
Absolutely.
Want to put every stuffed animal on the couch?
…Let’s negotiate.
The point isn’t saying yes to everything.
It’s giving your child the feeling that their ideas matter.
5. Make Homemade Play Dough
If you already have simple ingredients like flour, salt, and water, you may be able to make your own play dough at home.
Let your kids help mix, squish, shape, and create.
And don’t worry about making it Instagram-perfect.
They’re probably going to turn it into a dinosaur pancake anyway.
6. Have a Backyard Campout
You don’t need a fancy campground.
Set up blankets outside.
Bring flashlights.
Tell silly stories.
Look at the stars.
If sleeping outside isn’t your thing, have an indoor campout instead.
The adventure is still there.
7. Make an Obstacle Course
Use what you already have.
Pillows.
Chairs.
Boxes.
Blankets.
Jump over this.
Crawl under that.
Balance along a line.
Dance for ten seconds.
Suddenly your living room has become an Olympic training facility.
8. Have a “Cook With Me” Day
Let your child help make something simple.
Pizza.
Cookies.
Pancakes.
Sandwiches.
Fruit salad.
Even if it takes twice as long and creates three times the mess, you’re creating an experience together.
And yes, flour absolutely will end up somewhere you didn’t think flour could possibly reach.
9. Create a Family Dance Party
Pick everyone’s favorite songs.
Turn the music up.
Dance terribly.
Dance dramatically.
Have a freeze-dance competition.
The sillier, the better.
10. Make a Cardboard Box Creation
Before you throw away that box, ask your child:
“What should we turn this into?”
It could become:
🚀 A spaceship
🏠 A house
🚗 A car
🏰 A castle
🤖 A robot
🐉 A dragon
One box can become an entire afternoon of imagination.
11. Have a Storytelling Night
You don’t need a new book.
Make up a story together.
Let your child choose:
- The character
- The setting
- The problem
- The ending
You might be surprised by what their imagination comes up with.
12. Go on a “Special” Walk
Instead of simply going for a walk, give it a mission.
Find five different leaves.
Count birds.
Look for interesting rocks.
Find three things you’ve never noticed before.
A normal walk suddenly becomes an adventure.
13. Make a Memory Jar
Find an empty jar or container.
Whenever something funny, sweet, or memorable happens, write it down and put it inside.
At the end of the year, read them together.
You may find that the moments you almost forgot were some of the most meaningful.
14. Have a No-Screen Hour
Put the phones away.
Turn off the television.
Let everyone choose something to do together.
Read.
Draw.
Play cards.
Talk.
Build.
Or simply sit together.
Sometimes children don’t need more entertainment.
They need our attention.
15. Let Them Choose the Adventure
Ask:
“If we didn’t spend any money today, what would you want to do?”
You might be surprised.
They may want to go outside.
Make a fort.
Bake something.
Play a game.
Draw.
Go for a walk.
Or simply have you play with them.
Let their answer guide the day.
🧸 What About Toys?
We aren’t anti-toy.
We love a good toy.
And there are wonderful toys that encourage creativity, imagination, learning, and open-ended play.
But we don’t believe you need to buy a new toy every time there’s a new trend.
You don’t have to purchase the toy because you saw it in someone’s perfectly staged Instagram photo.
You don’t have to buy the seasonal version because everyone else seems to have it.
And you definitely don’t have to feel guilty because your child’s toy collection doesn’t look like someone else’s.
If you’re going to buy something, choose something that fits your family, your budget, and your child’s interests.
Not someone else’s highlight reel.
🌱 Choose Memories Over Pressure
We want Earthy Aura to be a place where you can discover products you genuinely love—but also a place where you can find ideas that don’t require buying anything at all.
Because sustainable living isn’t about constantly purchasing new things with better labels.
Sometimes sustainability means:
using what you already have.
Sometimes it means:
buying less.
Sometimes it means:
getting creative.
And sometimes it simply means:
sitting on the floor and playing with your child.
🤍 We’re Here for the Journey
Parenting can already come with enough pressure.
You don’t need another voice telling you that you’re doing it wrong because you didn’t buy the right toy, create the right activity, or make the perfect memory.
That’s not what we’re here for.
Earthy Aura is here to share ideas, inspiration, helpful information, and products that may make your family’s life a little easier or more intentional.
Take what helps.
Leave what doesn’t.
Use our ideas.
Make them your own.
And if something we share saves you a little money, gives you an activity for a rainy afternoon, or simply reminds you that you are doing enough, then we’ve done what we came here to do.
Because Your Child Doesn’t Need a Perfect Childhood.
They don’t need every toy.
They don’t need every trend.
They don’t need every activity.
They don’t need a picture-perfect playroom.
They need you.
They need your stories.
Your laughter.
Your hugs.
Your attention.
Your silly dances.
Your blanket forts.
Your “let’s make something” moments.
And your willingness to make ordinary days feel special.
So the next time you see a picture online and think,
“Maybe I should buy that…”
Pause.
Look at what you already have.
Then ask your child:
“What should we do together today?”
You might already have everything you need.
🌿 And if you need a little inspiration along the way, we’ll be right here.
